This is an original Belgian movie poster from the 1st release of Teinosuke Kinugasa's tragic tale of obsession and unrequited love, Gate of Hell. The film tells the story of a samurai who pursues a married lady-in-waiting. This was the first Japanese film to be shown to the American public subsequent to the end of World War II. It was also the first Japanese color film to be released outside of Japan. The movie was highly praised by critics earning numerous prizes including the Oscar and the Grand Prize at the 1954 Cannes Film Festival.

COUNTRY OF ORIGIN/SIZE: Belgium 14.5" x 21.75". Very Good Untrimmed Folded Condition. Untrimmed top white border has about a dozen small pinholes and a small area of paper loss. There is also a blue ink smudge in the right corner. A few additional pinholes, small edge tears and minor crinkling in the surrounding white border edges. Slightest of yellowing to the paper. Artwork is vivid and completely intact. Please see photos for all condition issues.
